14,600 years

I understand systems best by running them myself. That’s why there’s a tiny Bitaxe — an open-source ASIC miner — humming away on my shelf, solo-mining lottery-mining Bitcoin. It’s a losing game, statistically. With its roughly 1.3 TH/s, it will find a block every 14,600 years.

But that’s not the point. It’s about seeing the system firsthand. Participating and learning.
